Start of our 50 year anniversary season
Sunday 10 September
On Friday, September 1st, after months of hard work, we joyfully opened our new venue. We have a new interactive corner, featuring a scale, peepholes, and an interactive column. Additionally, the counter has been significantly renovated and relocated closer to the entrance. Behind the counter, the planets are showcased to scale and with photos.
Dr. Martien Jacobs from the KNVWS gave a speech about the importance of public observatories in the Netherlands and how special it is to have an observatory nearby.
Prof. Henny Lamers delivered a brief lecture on Nicolaus Copernicus, the Polish astronomer from whom we borrowed our name.
Behind the chairs, we now have space for a rotating exhibition. And the subject of our first exhibition? Nicolaus Copernicus, of course, and his influence on astronomy over the centuries. Mayor Roest officially inaugurated the new exhibition.
